Dwight Howard has been playing basketball in Taiwan over the last year, after failing to find an NBA team following a one-year stint with the Lakers that ended in 2022.

The former 3-time Defensive Player Of The Year now seemingly has another chance at the NBA level though, according to a report by Shams Charania.

“Eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard will meet with the Golden State Warriors next week,” Charania wrote. “The team has been exploring signing a reserve veteran big man, and now the 2020 Lakers championship center will visit with Warriors officials soon.”

The Golden State Warriors need some big men on the roster, with Kevon Looney and Draymond Green both being a bit undersized by traditional standards. At 37 years of age, Dwight Howard is not a starter but could be a valuable addition to the locker room. Golden State Warriors may be interested in Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard’s greatest late-career achievement was when he played a big part in the Los Angeles Lakers winning the NBA championship in 2020. The Golden State Warriors likely imagine him playing a similar role for them next season.

A meeting doesn’t indicate that he is certain to sign or anything of the sort, but it’s good to hear that Dwight is being afforded another opportunity at the highest level.

Dwight Howard’s Goal Is To Finish His Career By Winning Another NBA Championship

The Golden State Warriors acquired Chris Paul in a trade this offseason and seem to be going all-in with a core of veteran stars. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are both still playing at a high level, as is Draymond Green. And their goals align with Dwight Howard, who revealed earlier in the year that he wants to end his career with another NBA championship.

“I would love to come back to play in the NBA,” Howard said. “I do enjoy playing international basketball. Just the experience is one of a kind.

“It’s a different type of grind of being in the NBA, and I had a chance to experience it. But I would love to finish off my career with an NBA team and, hopefully, win an NBA championship.”

Dwight Howard averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Lakers during the 2021-22 season, playing 16.2 minutes a game. If he can have a similar impact on the Warriors, it might be something that helps the franchise.

Warriors Signed Usman Garuba To A Two-Way Contract

The Golden State Warriors are making some moves a bit later in the offseason, and it’s not just Dwight Howard that’s on the team’s radar. Golden State Warriors should target Dwight Howard

Former Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder player Usman Garuba has been signed on a two-way deal, with Shams Charania also breaking that news.

“Free agent center Usman Garuba has agreed to a two-way NBA contract with the Golden State Warriors. The former Rockets first-round pick is coming off averaging 8.2 points and 4 rebounds for Spain in the FIBA World Cup,” Charania reported.

The Golden State Warriors have all their stars in place and have important role players like Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, and Gary Payton II on the roster as well. Dwight Howard Interested In Joining Golden State Warriors - Fastbreak on FanNation

Adding Garuba and potentially bringing Dwight Howard to the franchise will only add roster depth and make them look more interesting going into next season.
